What is (SMP) Scalp Micropigmentation

At Pinnacle SMP, our solution to hair loss is a non-surgical cosmetic option. Scalp Micropigmentation is the fastest growing solution to hair loss globally, with men & women across the US. We are excited to offer our services for the Colorado Front Range and Greater Denver Metro Area.

Scalp Micropigmentation involves implanting pigment into the upper dermal layer of the scalp using fine needles.

This creates the appearance of natural hair follicles and adds density to thinning hair. (SMP) is suitable for men and women experiencing various types of hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, hair thinning due to aging or other factors. It can also be utilized for concealing scars. The treatment is done in a gradual layering process and takes about 3 sessions to complete

Did you know SMP can last for several years, typically between 4-6 years, before requiring touch-ups? The longevity of the treatment depends on factors like sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Scalp Micropigmentation is sometimes also referred to as a scalp tattoo or hair tattoo. Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that uses detailed micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short hair stubble. If you are starting to thin, recede, or if you are completely bald, we can give you the look of a short buzz cut, or thicker & fuller hair.

  • No, the scalp micropigmentation treatment will not grow your hair back. However, the SMP treatment will give you the look of short hair or a tight buzz-cut. We recommend keeping your hair at a shorter length to create the most natural outcome.

  • Pricing is based on the level of hair loss, which is different for each client. Typically, the price ranges between $1500-4000. A free consultation is always recommended so the SMP artist can get a full picture for the amount of work needing done, and then provide an accurate quote.

  • Scalp Micropigmentation on average is not painful, however depending on your pain threshold their are certain areas of the temple which can sting due to the skin being thinner in that area. On a scale from 1-10 the average client rates the pain between 2 to 4.

  • The Scalp Micropigmentation treatment typically requires 3 sessions to complete, with each sessions lasting 2-4 hours, depending on your degree of hair loss. These treatments are usually spaced about 7-14 days apart.

  • This treatment typically lasts 4-6 years. After that time, a client may experience some slight fading (no color change), to which they can come back in for a quick touch up. This cosmetic solution will not wash off but can be tweaked as years go on. We always recommend meeting with our team of experienced expert practitioners to discuss your treatment options.

  • Absolutely! When Scalp Micropigmentation is carried out by a trained professional such as at Pinnacle SMP, the final result will be totally undetectable. You will look as though you have a natural full head of hair.

  • Avoid Water Exposure: Keep the treated area dry for at least 4-5 days after each session to prevent pigment from fading or washing out.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect the treated area from direct sunlight for 1-2 weeks after each session, as sun exposure can cause the pigment to fade or change color.

    • No Heavy Exercise: Refrain from heavy exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 4-5 days after each session to prevent pigment from fading.

    • Moisturize: After the initial healing period, keep the treated area moisturized using a gentle, fragrance-free lotion to promote healthy skin and maintain the vibrancy of the pigment.

    • Avoid Picking or Scratching: Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the treated area during the healing process, as this can damage the pigment and impede proper healing.

    • Touch-ups: Over time, the pigment may fade due to factors like sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle. Touch-up sessions may be required every few years to maintain the appearance of the treatment.
